After a bright start to the season winning 3/3 in August, results were not going in favor of Jose Mourinho and his boys at the start of September and a lot of people criticized him and even some wrote that he was finished, but this December is actually turning to be a typical United’s December [manchester United is know to be ruthless during this month], we have not seen much of that in the last three seasons but this season they are replicating that form they had under Ferguson, United with a game in hand before the year ends have won four and drawn one of their six December PL fixtures, after failing to win a single game in their previous campaign under Louis Van Gaal. The win against Sunderland took their winning streak to four their best run in the PL this season. And I believe these points cannot be ignored
Mourinho’s United looks very different from the one we witnessed last season under LVG, they cared a lot about possession and could pass the ball at the back all game and that was pretty boring, this season they try to go foward more resulting in they creating more chances than they did at th this stage last season.
New Signings Influence
The new signings are adapting really well and playing a lot better than the start of the season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a bright start but along the line he lost his touch going five matches without a goal in the PL but we can see he is back to his best after scoring eight in has last seven PL appearances, taking his PL goal tally to 12 putting him on level with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez at 2nd on the top goal scorers chart. Despite how wasteful he has been, his numbers are impressive and with little more effort he can turn things around for Man.Utd in the second round.
Paul Pogba on the other hand, had an amazing start against Southampton but since then he hasn’t really played like you would expect the world most expensive player to play, but for the past few weeks, Paul seems to be gaining momentum and controlling the midfield of Man.Utd, hitting the woodwork four times this season, with a bit of luck as he said sometime ago he can start providing goals for his team. I think his second round will be much better with Carrick cover in the holes he leaves behind when he goes foward.
Henrik Mhikityran is also back in the team after being kept out by Mourinho with the reason of adapting the league from the sidelines, so far it seems to be paying off scoring two in his last two PL appearances with the latest one coming against Sunderland a Scorpion kick, goal of the season contender.
Won’t say much about Eric Baily, considering his age and demands of the PL he has really shaped well into the premier league and United will miss him during the Africans cup.
This Manchester defense may not form part of the best 5 defenses in the league or cannot be compared to Vidic-Ferdinand era, but it looks a lot better and consistent than they were last season. After an injury to Baily and Smalling many thought the defense was going to suffer then came Jones and Rojo, both has been immense since their introduction and freeing De Gea of been united’s savior like he was last season. Though they haven’t kept a lot of clean sheets lately but their work at the back needs to be commended, not forgetting the full-backs. I hope Shaw hits top form soon he hasn’t really being impressive so far.
This was something that was seriously lacking in LVG’s Manchester United, they couldn’t create many chances and it made them look boring most of the time but that has improved this season. In 2015/16 campaign they created 312 chances but has already created 215 chances and the league is still in the first round.
As a Manchester United fan you should have confidence in Jose and be behind him, I believe winning the PL title will be almost impossible for Jose and his men, but remember they still in three other competitions and can finish the season with a silverware. Man Utd is moving in the right direction and next season they will challenge for the title.
